Knitting a cardigan: Part 1
Crafts |
I faintly can remember how to knit but I haven’t knitted anything for years. Although knitting is a bit like riding a bicycle: I can’t explain it but the moment I’m holding two needles in my hand I know what to do with it.
I was already toying with the idea of knitting something for a while but somehow I couldn’t find anything I’d like. But on one of my strolls through the world wide web I came across this fabulous knitted cardigan on ‘not martha’ and I instantly fell in love with it. I have to have one and the only way to get it is by knitting it myself.
First off all I had to get some supplies:
- Knitting pattern – Chic Knits Ribby Cardi
- Yarn – I choose Patons Smoothie DK (100% Acrylic) Colour: 1059 (some sort of brown)
- Knitting needles 4.5mm
- some books about knitting – just in case I need some instructions
Before I could get started on my cardigan I had to knit a tension swatch to make sure that my knitting is matching up with the pattern as I otherwise would end up with a cardigan too big or too small.

The pattern suggest to knit the back and the two front parts as three separate parts that later get sewn together. I hate joining knitted pieces and therefor I decided to knit the whole body part in one large piece. After a bit of math and after casting on 215 stitches I was ready to start!
